In a time of heightened concern for student well-being, this Best of GSX package features 5 recordings that offers security professionals and school administrators a comprehensive exploration of proven mitigation strategies for active violence events.
This package includes:
Creating Safer Schools - Proven Mitigation Strategies for Active Violence Events
Multiple acts of violence have taken place in K-12 schools across the nation and around the world, and they continue to raise the issue of safety and security at educational institutions. While schools continue to be targeted, forward-thinking school administrators are looking at safeguards that can be taken to protect our children. But what is truly effective?
Utilizing specific case studies, details of truly effective violence mitigation strategies emerge. This session will also include the never-before-seen details of the Covenant School shooting, and the properly implemented mitigation strategies deployed by the faculty and staff during those terrifying 14 minutes prior to law enforcement being able to neutralize the threat.
Incorporating Security and CPTED Within University Master Planning
In 2023, The University of New Mexico implemented an Integrated Campus Plan for three Albuquerque campuses covering almost 800 acres of managed properties. The university quickly identified that the role of campus safety should be foundational for their long-term planning effort and chose to have their lead architecture firm add a security engineering consulting firm to the project to address this need.
Through this collaboration, CPTED, safety, and security recommendations were included to not only highlight focus areas for development, but also guide the overall development recommendations within the plan.
In this presentation, the university and consultant will cover the distinct value that security and CPTED provided, safety concerns that were avoided, and planning discoveries.
How Schools and Universities Can Digitally Map Their Campus Security Technology for Better Safety
Security professionals have traditionally relied on floorplans, hand-written markups, and pictures on cell phones for site surveys, system implementation, and maintenance. Today, system integrators, K-12 schools, and universities are using new digital tools to not only streamline design, but also to centralize all physical security, IT, and technology assets in one place as a digital “as built,” or map, for real-time resource, communication, and device management. Join this session to learn how cloud-based platforms and mobile apps empower stakeholders to plan, budget, implement, and maintain hundreds of devices deployed across campuses as well as improve emergency response operations by ensuring first responders have immediate access to the most up-to-date information about a campus’ security solution.
Key Principles and Practices for School Threat Assessment Teams
Behavioral threat assessment and management (“BTAM”) is an essential pillar of the forthcoming ASIS School Safety standards. This session is designed to introduce security practitioners to the key terms and concepts, body of research, and essential practices necessary to meet the forthcoming standards. The content of this session is both strategic, discussing the principles that can be applied organizationally, as well as operational, discussing practical steps for school teams to implement an effective school behavioral threat assessment and management program.
Power of Grant Funding: Tips and Best Practices for Applying for Security Technology Grants
Each year, more than 5,000 grant programs are opened in the United States, providing more than $990 billion in awards. The top recipients of grant funding for technology projects are public safety agencies, public administration, utilities, transit, state and local justice, correctional institutions, healthcare, and education.
In this session, we’ll review top considerations when you or your customers are seeking grants to help fund new technology projects. This includes suggestions on what grants are looking for, how to frame a project so it meets the context of the grant, and a general timeline of grant support. In this panel discussion, we’ll also talk with organizations that are using grant funding as a way to bring their visions to reality and review ways integrators can help customers through the process.
