Most people are unaware of the multitude of systems operating in the background of the buildings around them every day, and in the drive to achieve greater efficiencies and to improve occupant experience these systems are increasing in quantity and complexity. These building control systems have the potential to introduce security risks that extend beyond what most people realize so it is important to understand what they are, why it is a concern, and how we got to this point before we can begin to address the problem.

Coleman is the senior security consultant and studio leader at Environmental Systems Design, Inc. (ESD) and has over 30 years of experience in security management and as a security engineer and consultant. Coleman has worked closely with clientele in the real estate, health care, financial, trading, education, hospitality, R&D, and government sectors. He is the current Chairman of the ASIS Information Technology Security Council and is also an active member of the Security Architecture and Engineering Council. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Northwestern University, and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
