Description:
This course examines the fundamentals of cybersecurity and cybercrime. It will introduce the current challenges of combating cybercrime and include discussions of cybersecurity best practices. A primary focus will be to learn key terms, concepts, and techniques that are applied to various environments. Finally, the course delves into understanding the current cybercrime trends and threats posed through cyberspace.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Provide definitions and an overview of cybersecurity and cybercrime
- Describe the differences between public and private cybersecurity issues;
- Explain the basic concepts of cybersecurity and concerns;
- Explain cybersecurity in terms of potential loss, threats, and vulnerabilities, and how to respond to them;
- Identify the approach to risk management that links security strategies and realistic threat assessments and risks.

Dr. Mark H. Beaudry, CPP
Associate Professor in Criminal Justice, Worcester State University
Dr. Beaudry is an Associate Professor in Criminal Justice at Worcester State University. He has been a member of ASIS International since 1982 and a CPP - Certified Protection Professional since 1996. He is a frequent researcher and author in security studies, cybercrime & cybersecurity, police education and performance, criminology, and the history of the Middle East. In addition to providing book reviews, Dr. Beaudry provides book proposal reviews and peer-review journal article reviews for varied publishers and journals. Finally, Dr. Beaudry is a retired intelligence chief, area studies analyst, MSG, and a certified anti-terrorism instructor from the USMCR. He holds an AS/BS/MS, and a PhD in Criminal Justice.
