Impostor Syndrome is a term coined in 1978 by clinical psychologists referring to high-achieving individuals marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a fear of being exposed as a ‘fraud’.

In this discussion, we’ll take on a non-technical concept; however, it might play a very important role in some of the opportunities we take…or miss out on.  It can also impact our career, our relationships, and our happiness.  You might be surprised at how common this feeling is!

If you have ever answered yes to one or more of these questions, you may want to join us:

  • I feel like I don’t deserve any of the success I’ve attained.
  • Even if people praise my skills, I still don’t think I am as accomplished as they think I am.
  • Most of the accomplishments I have are due to luck.
  • I downplay my achievements because I don’t think they are as amazing as people think they are.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what impostor syndrome is
  • Realize that you or someone you care for is not alone in this struggle
  • Be equipped to assist others who regularly are impacted by impostor experiences
