Successful career planning and transition involves assessing one's skills, values, and interests, while also staying attuned to evolving trends and emerging opportunities. By approaching career development with flexibility and a growth mindset, professionals can adapt to changing circumstances and position themselves for long-term success and fulfillment.

This collection includes 4 GSX sessions providing impactful insights to structure one’s career trajectory.

Behind the Scenes of Success, Unveiling Failures and Challenges of Security Leadership Transitions

In a candid discussion between three security professionals who transitioned out of law enforcement (early, mid and late career),  hear where these leaders struggled, failed, and ultimately persevered as they journeyed to their current roles. Transitioning out of public service is not easy nor is it for the faint of heart. The audience will listen as the speakers open up about financial, emotional, and mental challenges.

As a core area of discussion, the session will also focus on the term "Revolving Transition" as the private sector faces layoffs, separations, and jumping organizations. Transitioning out of public services is not a single event but a continuous path to success.

This sessions aims to be transparent, empathetic, and engaging, facing the truth that career development is difficult but achievable.

But How Does It Translate: Pivoting Law Enforcement Skills for Career Advancements and Transitions in Security

Building on the success of last year's "Beyond the Badge" GSX session, ASIS International’s Law Enforcement Liaison Community returns to extend the enlightening conversation. The multidisciplinary panel delves into successful strategies for career advancement within law enforcement or challenging transitions into corporate security.  Participants will identify essential skills and strategies for managing shifts within their demanding roles and gain valuable insights for professional development. Our aim: to empower law enforcement officers to chart their path confidently and successfully in whichever direction their career leads.

Careers from Physical Security to Cyber Security: The How and the Why

This engaging learning session is designed to facilitate the transition of physical security professionals into the dynamic field of cybersecurity. The program emphasizes practical outcomes, audience engagement, and innovative approaches, ensuring participants gain valuable insights and skills to navigate the evolving security landscape successfully.

Transitioning to Cyber Security from Physical Security

Career trajectories within the security management profession are varied, but understanding how to translate one’s skill set across different industries can make transitioning to a new role achievable.

After 7 years in the British Police as a Police Detective, our speaker transitioned into the Physical Security Industry, working and supplying manned guarding for a number of prestigious businesses, in a number of different leadership roles. And later, as GDPR law came into effect, her interest in data protection led her to again change course, this time transitioning to cyber security. She now works for one of the world’s largest cruise ship companies in a cyber security leadership advisory role.

In this session, our speaker discusses how physical security professionals can make the switch because they already have 70% of the skills needed to do the role she does, and they may not even realize it.
