As we approach NATO’s 75th anniversary, Ambassador Smith’s keynote at ASIS Europe will focus on NATO’s outlook for the next 75 years and how it will adapt to meet the challenges of the future. NATO is facing the most complex security environment since the end of the Cold War. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is jeopardizing European security, terrorism continues to represent a threat to stability, and China’s rise is challenging global economic and security structures. To confront these emerging challenges, NATO is strengthening resilience, investing in defense and maintaining a strong technological edge, and enhancing cooperation with Partners on shared global challenges. Productive, mutually- beneficial relationships between the public and private sectors are essential to protecting our global future. Private industry plays a crucial role in supporting NATO’s objectives and innovating to tackle future challenges. Despite these challenges, NATO is stronger and more united than ever. The Alliance has ensured Transatlantic security for 75 years, and when leaders gather for the Washington Summit this summer, it will chart the path for the years to come.
